The Green Comes Marching In

October 14th, 2008

DB Farm

A menagerie of velvet puffy animals invaded the office this evening and promptly attached themselves to all things electric.

Sam, who led the green movement, says: “The animals are very well-trained. They pop up where you least expect to remind you to turn off all power points and appliances at the end of the day. With Singapore in a technical recession, there’s no better time to save green by being green!”

The cute creatures are a hit with the team, though Jiayi was not impressed with the turtle dinosaur on her laptop Kramer’s, cable.

spanking new laptop = cool. spanking new laptop with sticker on cable = not cool. thankyouverymuch.

Aside from switching off, there are other little things we do to stay green, such as:

  • printing 2 pages on each side of the sheet for internal documents
  • using tupperware to buy back meals (not so easy to remember when deadlines loom)
  • bringing our own bags to the supermarket
  • shaking the printer cartridge till its absolute last drop
  • setting the air-conditioner at 25C
  • cycling to work (well, Pam used to do this until her bike got stolen borrowed for an indefinite length of time by a stranger)

The Singapore Environment Council (SEC) has more tips on how to make your office eco-friendly. We’d be happy to share our stickers!
