Blessings in a Bag site launched!
December 16th, 2008On the night of 31 October 2008, while everyone was out celebrating Halloween’s, a group of 6 busy elves were hunched over their computers in a little office in Little India, preparing for the launch of the Blessings in a Bag website.
About Blessings in a Bag
Blessings in a Bag is a charity organisation founded by Emily Teng, student, part time DJ and full time philanthropist. It aims to help the less fortunate in developing countries by getting involved young, spontaneous and dynamic volunteers. A chief aim of having a new website was so that the organisation could create awareness and spread the word about itself through the use of the Internet.
At Digital Boomerang, we strongly believe in giving back to the community. So when Emily asked ever so nicely if it would be possible for us to launch the site a week earlier to be in tandem with her interview in The Straits Times that week, we had no qualms about working in overdrive and overtime to make it happen.
Project Challenges
With 2 weeks to launch, we had to:
- set up web hosting
- set up DNS
- design the website
- install the WordPress engine
- customise the WordPress template
- install and configure add-on plugins
- upload all the web content
- audit the site to make sure it’s perfect
Another challenge we faced was having to test and find the most suitable Wordpress plugins for the volunteer form and photo gallery in this short period of time. Thankfully, Elaine and Colin - our Wordpress whizzes - saved the day.
Both the technical and content team worked concurrently till 2am to put the blog together in time for Emily’s article on The Straits Times the following day. It was hectic and stressful but by working cohesively as a team, we DB-ians dove into it, went beyond expectations and launched the blog on time.
