The new OS, which features network connectivity, combined with the hardware improvements will position the 560 series as enterprise handhelds. Here are the new features we will be looking out for. Stay tuned for our full report and review when we put these features to the test.
Design and form factor:
- Sleek — Same size but flaunts a two-tone grey design made possible by a magnesium chassis similar to that in HP’s Omnibook 500 series.
- Lighter — 85 grams lighter than previous models.
- Compact — Stylus is now built into the casing.
Usability:
- Colour screen — A new thin-film-transistor 16-bit color display makes the screen readable even in bright light.
- Navigation pad — Round navigation pad with a mouse-click makes it much easier to use and access all the applications.
Hardware:
- More memory — To address memory-intensive enterprise usage, the 560 series will be available in 32MB and 64MB.
- Faster processor — The new series is based on Intel’s 206-MHz StrongArm. A StrongArm processor is also used in Compaq’s iPAQ and has been credited for a substantial portion of the iPAQ’s success.
- Battery — 14 hours of continuous usage as opposed to 8 hours offered by previous models.
