A Mobile Workhorse
November 23rd, 2001Practically speaking
The design of the 6510 is nothing to rave about. It’s simple and practical with Nokia’s signature look.
There are 5 colours available, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Red, Beige and Dark Purple, as Xpress-On covers. But for the Asia-Pacific market, there is only a choice of two colours shipped in standard sales packages: Dark Blue and Greyish Green. For those craving for more colours, the rather vibrant compatible covers market will serve you well.
Like the Nokia 8250, the backlight is bright blue. A nice touch but when juxtaposed with the 8250, the design just doesn’t look as smart.
Armed to the teeth
The Nokia 6510 is packed with technology and features. It supports both GPRS and HSCSD. With the built-in WAP 1.2.1 browser, you will be surfing quickly on the move. The 6510 also addresses the bain of WAP phones: laborious input of WAP urls. It’s WAP browser actually supports predictive text input.
A key feature of the 6510 is the new wallet application for secure mobile commerce. Key your credit card details into your mobile wallet, and whenever you make a purchase via your WAP browser, you can just “dig” into your wallet for the data. The wallet is protected by a PIN code and the data within is encrypted. An additional module allows for digital signatures to ensure non-repudiation of transactions. Other personal data like usernames and passwords can also be stored in your wallet and extracted when needed.
For added connectivity, the 6510 comes with an infra-red port. Designed to work with the HSCSD, it can offer high data transmission speeds of up to 43.2kbps when connected to your PDA or laptop.
