Spice Newsletter wins hearts of readers

January 15th, 2006

What gives us the most pleasure sometimes is working with clients who trust us completely. They let us do our jobs and understand that there is always a 25-35% of experimentation going on.

Spice N Wine Newsletter
The Spice Newsletter (See Full Version) is a monthly that we send out for a restaurant known as Spice N Wine. And we were so happy with the response. It was incredible how readers wrote back to say how much they loved it.

In a way, that’s the best form of measuring the success of your e-newsletter. You can use technology-driven metrics like open rate and clickthroughs, but nothing beats receiving customer endorsment.

A lot of the credit goes to our client - Connie Singam of Spice N Wine. Besides trusting and believing in us, she listened to our recommendatons and acted on it. She also gave us a database of customers whom she knew (i.e. no spamming). It’s such a pleasure to be her web consultant.

Here’s what the readers of Spice N Wine said about the newsletter:

I enjoyed reading this update. Kept meaning to tell you how good your picture of the Last Supper looks just where it is.

Great newsletter, very professionally done…well done, Connie.

Dear Connie just a quick word to say that the news letter looks great!

I have enjoyed reading your website / newsletter as much as i have enjoyed the dishes at your place.

Do keep up the good work, i enjoy your email updates and enjoy your restaurant even more!

The key ingredients:

  1. Clean list - most of the members of the list were friends of the restaurant or had left their namecard with the restaurant.
  2. Personalised copy - Connie listened to our advice to personalise her e-newsletter so that readers knew it was not a “marketing gimmick” and that she personally spent time crafting the content.
