What is usability and usability testing?

Simply put, usability is about making a product more usable. Web usability is about making websites more usable.

To find out if your website is usable, we conduct usability testing.

Usability testing is a process of measuring how usable your website is.

The Process

The process involves getting real users to carry out realistic tasks on your website.

Before and after users carry out the tasks, we usually conduct interviews to get qualitative insights.

During the test, we ask users to “think aloud” to understand how they are going about completing tasks on your website.

The Measures

Typically, we measure things like:

  • how long it takes for the user to complete the task given
  • how many mistakes/errors the user made
  • whether the user can easily recall the information/experience
  • how the user felt about the experience

The Results

At the end of every usability test, we will produce a recommendations report. The report will contain:

  • problems users faced carry out the tasks
  • suggestions on how to fix those problems

If problems are minor, it usually takes 2-6 weeks to implement the fixes. However, if we discover more severe problems with your website, you may have to:

  • revamp your website
  • rework your information architecture
  • redevelop your content
